Item:  Portrait of A Child by Evelyn Enola Rockwell

Price:  $850.00

Description:
Evelyn Enola Rockwell was a painter born in 1887 in Chicago and died in 1933. She studied at the Penn. Academy of Fine Arts, Art Students League, William Merritt Chase and Cecelia Beaus, Charles Woodbury and at the Ogunquit School. She was a member of Queensboro SAC and exhibited at Society of Independent Artists in 1921 as well as other venues in the 1920s. Her specialty was children's portraits and cosmic portraits in pastels. That is exactly what we have here, a good pastel on paper of an adorable little boy. He is shown in a striped shirt and gray jacket. Signed lower left. This portrait descended in a Hartford, Conn., area estate and came to Tennessee in the 1960s. We have no idea as to the sitters identity but he would be a good adoptable ancestor by a major artist.

Item:  Boston Harbor Engraving, Mid 19th Century

Price:  $850.00

Description:
When an American thinks of Boston, they think of the infamous Tea Party. This view of the harbor is probably a mid 19th Century view as it would have been in the 18th century. The ships are moving around, and there is a lot of action and movement in this image. The entire engraving appears to have been watercolored on top of the engraving and is certainly crisp and very appealing. This is a large framed piece that would work well in an office or above a sofa or mantle. The feeling of this scene is one of hope and that the new country is alive and well.

Item:  19th Century French Erotica Engravings by Baudoin

Price:  $450.00

Description:
When it comes to an interest in sensual things, the French really are experts. In this pair of 19th century engravings that appear to be hand watercolored, a couple is shown embracing in a period room with the maid looking on through the door and shortly, the couple appear to be heading for the curtained bed. The period clothing and room setting only make this more like a good European erotic flick. Well framed and ready to hang. Priced for the pair.

Item:  Handmade Retro Needlework of 2 Perched Birds Under Archway

Price:  $150.00

Description:
In the 1950s, ladies did lots of embroidery needlework. This image appears to be on linen with two birds, one blue and one red facing each other on a yellow perch, standing under an archway that has an almost heart shaped crest that would make the viewer think that these are lovebirds. The detail work in the birds is almost humorous and shows cross stitching, embroidery and a variety of cable and floral stitching. The frame is the original and it undoubtedly is a genuinely old piece.

Item:  Roslyn Chapel Edinburgh

Price:  $200.00

Description:
The cathedrals and churches of Europe are major points of interest. This engraving dated 1928 and marked as being printed by Alfred Bell of London shows a very detailed interior with lots of carving on the Gothic Arches, Fluted Columns, Stained Glass Windows and all sorts of ornaments, even down to the Bible Stand. The pencil artist name is almost impossible to read but the work is exquisite. This is a little jewel, and the photo does not do it justice. The paper marks in the lower left identify all sorts of markings just like British silver.

Item:  A Christmas Street Scene Engraving

Price:  $125.00

Description:
Of all the holidays, Christmas probably comes closest to most peoples hearts. They are home with friends and family, relaxed and in a reflective spirit. Men with canes and top hats walk ladies with large hoop skirts along the snow covered streets. Balconies overhang the streets on the buildings. The image is probably American but showing a European scene. The frame is the original, in excellent condition, and ready for immediate hanging.

Item:  Dis Mus Be De Place by Dick Nodell

Price:  $175.00

Description:
Someone had a great sense of humor and probably did this drawing on a trip to Italy. A tourist is shown looking around in an arched interior of a church, thinking or musing "Dismusbedeplace". This drawing matches another that is entitled and signed Dick Nodell and the name may be Yodell but I am not sure. The rest of the signature or place shows a mosquito and is signed Mosquito,-Cordo. The frame is in good condition and can easily be used.

Item:  Calcutta India Boating Scene, 1925

Price:  $100.00

Description:
India, just the word makes one think of exotic and different. This pencil drawing was brought back from a trip to Calcutta in 1925 by Wilbur Van Doren and was given to Grace from the inscription on the back. The image is almost one of a silhouette showing 2 sail boats on a calm water effortlessly gliding along with a palm tree on the shore. The name on the bottom could conceivably be Benberg but I am not sure. The frame and backing is the original with the notes of a trip to Calcutta and who it was purchased by and given to upon return.

Item:  Imaginary Gothic Landscape by Kati L. Hayden, Hartford, 1857

Price:  $750.00

Description:
During the mid 19th Century, imaginary and especially Gothic landscapes were very popular. This scene shows a wagon or cart being pulled by two horses along a road, 2 figures are off to the left side of the cart discussing something, a dog is in front of the horses in the roadway and there is a lady, young man, dog and older man in hat and cane walking toward the wagon in front of a house with a large round column temple behind the scene. The pencil drawing is signed lower right Kati L. Hayden, Hartford, 1857. The frame is an old frame and damaged on the molding sides but this almost helps the effect of the antiquity in the scene. This image almost makes one think of the sandpaper paintings popular in the 19th century. The painting came to Tennessee in the 1960s from a Hartford, Connecticut estate and has been kept until this year when the estate of this collector was sold. This is likely to be the Miss Hayden in Groce & Wallace as being a panorama painter. The detail and story this image shows is really good and the overall effect is one of a viewer observing mid 19th century life in early America.

Item:  Obelisco Egizio by Piranesi

Price:  $4,850.00

Description:
The center of the engraving is dominated by the giant obelisque or obelisk and the antique aqueduct in the background shows the antiquity of all sorts of the symbols on the Egyptian monument in the center. This monument in Rome is known as the Obelisk of Rameses II. The original use of this section was sort of a modern day train station with all sorts of church and government areas spreading out from this section. I am not sure if this is the Paris Edition or the older, but either way, this piece is very close to 200 years of age. There are some watermarks on the paper where water has gotten under the glass and stained the image, and there is a very mild amount of old silverfish on the surface, but to be this old, this is in really good condition. The hieroglyphics on the obelisque in the center make for an unexpected view in the town center. The figures around are all ancient and looking as if they are almost props. This engraving originated with a Hartford, Conn., collector and is in a good useable black frame. The print has not been cleaned and is in original condition. Most collectors would use it as is, the new owner can make a decision as to clean it or use it. If you have specific questions concerning this piece and any markings that I need to see if they are on the image, please feel free to contact me and I will do everything I can to be of assistance.

Item:  19th Century European Horse Drawing with Rider

Price:  $900.00

Description:
The name is in the almost center of the bottom and hard to read, I am guessing at it but may be wrong. It is no doubt 150 years of age and very appealing. The entire image is appealing with an elderly gentleman in a top hat riding a horse. The colors in the horse are simply fantastic with hues of light reflecting on the obviously brown major color. The horses hoofs and legs are extremely well detailed and there is a graphite sketched background. Original frame, pine with incised or inlaid lines, this is a fine piece of horse art and collectors for this type of image would be thrilled to own this.

Item:  Hunting Dogs Attacting the Wild Boar

Price:  $750.00

Description:
Given as a gift by Paul A. Chew of the Westmoreland County Museum of Art to a collector, the notation that is on the back is that Mr. Chew purchased this charcoal in Europe and felt that the owner would like it as a gift. The image is one of 6 dogs attacting a wild boat from all sides, all very well detailed with a muscular structure that is unbelievably minute and the fur on the boar just looks real. In the background is arider on a horse with another person beside. There is a lot of action in this painting and it has a really good appearance.
