Item:  Diddie, Dumps and Tot by Mrs L.C. Pyrnelle, or Plantation Child-Life

Price:  $85.00

Description:
One of the sweetest stories, this 1916, this book shows how children years ago loved their Black American Mammies and Aunties during nursery days and that they would even go to bed and asleep easier for them than their own parents. The book is certainly not a defense of slavery and it does cover both sides of that issue, but is really a well presented and positive view of how caring adults raised generations of children, both white and black. The two races were raised together and did become friends, a positive view in todays world and the positive effects of this book far outweigh the few negative. This 1916 reprint is somewhat changed and updated for the time period and several well done illustrations are found in the book. There is a lot of humor of goats chasing children and events that still happen today.

An interesting novel on ancient Egypt with effects of weaving, wall tapestries, rugs and all sorts of fabric, "interwoven" into a story that readers found fascinating around the turn of the century. The touch of exotic locations in early 20th century was a necessity to make books desirable to readers, and this certainly delivers on that score.
