Title: 1862 Poindexter Civil War Recruitment
|
| |
Description
From Randolph County, Missouri, by J. A. Poindexter, Col 5th Reg. 3D. M. S. G., Jan. 17, 62, this document asks for volunteers to uphold the cause of Liberty, referring to Silver Creek, Roanoke Rd., very patriotic recruitment request for Civil War. Old fold marks from seams with minor paper losses, laid down on another piece of paper. This refers to killing the enemy, and in a manner of speaking is almost evangelistic in appeal. 8 3/4 inches wide, 11 3/4 inches tall, all margins are there and this does not seem to have been cut from anything. There is no doubt that this is an original piece and not a copy as it has descended through the original soldier who volunteered after seeing this to a present descendant. |

Title: American Federal Sofa with Scrolled Arms
|
| |
Description
This sofa retains its original finish and the details of the carved feet and animal wings are certainly attractive. The scroll arms are finely executed and the back has a Mahogany inlaid panel in the center of the top. The wood of the entire sofa appears to be Mahogany. Full provenance available to the buyer. During the mid 20th century, many American brides were photographed on sofas of this nature on one end with their arms resting on the highly stylized curved arms. The entire sofa is one of grace and the feather carving to the wings beside the animal paw feet make for an very interesting theme. |

Title: North Shore (Boston Area) School of Thomas Seymour Early 19th Century Chest
|
| |
Description
This chest has descended in the family of Captain John Anderson, a well known Massachusetts and Connecticut steamboat owner. The lunette inlay around both the top and base section is indicative of the school of the Seymours and today is considered a masterpiece type furniture. The interior of the top drawer was altered in the late Victorian time into a division made of Birds Eye Maple. The hardware is original to the piece and the finish is old if not original. Shipping on this item will vary depending on where you live. The Mahogany carcas is extremely well crafted, there are cookie cutter corners and this is a very appealing and desirable size. |

Title: Aristocratic 19th Century Gentleman with Key in Shirt Button
|
| |
Description
The sitter is well depicted in this portrait that has been cleaned and relined. The frame has been repaired and is in mint condition. The gentleman is shown with a key in the third button of his shirt that denotes either surveying or perhaps scholarship or watch ownership. The hand rests on a book and on the lake behind him can clearly be seen sail boats. The painting has had serious repairs many years ago and the condition is wonderful and ready to hang. If you have an interest in classical American furniture this could easily be a good addition for your collection and would look especially good in a dining room or library. The key in the shirt button could be a transif or measure key as well as a pocket watch. |
