| Description | The sitter is well depicted in this portrait that has been cleaned and relined. The frame has been repaired and is in mint condition. The gentleman is shown with a key in the third button of his shirt that denotes either surveying or perhaps scholarship or watch ownership. The hand rests on a book and on the lake behind him can clearly be seen sail boats. The painting has had serious repairs many years ago and the condition is wonderful and ready to hang. If you have an interest in classical American furniture this could easily be a good addition for your collection and would look especially good in a dining room or library. The key in the shirt button could be a transif or measure key as well as a pocket watch. |
