Description:  A richly colored water rock and sky treatment. Mrs. Hamilton was widely exhibited and studied in Paris. Description:  Milton Wassmer was a well known Utah artist who painted in Provincetown, Mass. This painting entitled The Blue Boat shows a label from the Alice Merrill Horne Exhibitions and the number of 15 on the back. Inscribed on the canvas is the name and date, and on the stretcher, a Merry Christmas to Sibyl Watts, 1947. This appears to be the original frame and there is also a #9 that probably references another exhibition of this painting by the artist. The entire painting is a very attractive image of a boat tied up at the pier side with buildings on stilts shown facing the water. This is a very attractive piece and the colors are especially crisp. Signed lower right, Milton Wassmer. This artist has major listings for American artists and the scene is very pleasant.

Description:  During the 1930s, the US government made jobs for lots of workers through the Civilian Conservation Corps or WPA and many buildings were constructed. Numerous of these were barracks to hold workers for such projects as damn construction, tree clearing and other basic construction jobs for the country. Most of these buildings are now gone or converted to other uses and the draftsmanship of this image is one of new, crisp and a good living space for a group of workers. There is an American flag flying on a pole above the front entrance. The watercolor is signed lower right and is in the original frame. With the exception of minor scratches, there is no problem to the frame and the glass is the original wavy, bubbly glass that all collectors love.

The frame is one of aged wood, probably not the original and resembles a form of barn wood which certainly could have a boathouse look with this image. Description:  Parrots were popular in the 1920s and this painting was purchased in California in the 20s by the secretary of Howard Hughes, and descended through her family to friends in Eastern Tennessee. It bears a part of an exhibition label on the back. The painting is much lighter than the photo and the tropical birds are shown in a lush setting. The artwork has been cleaned and is in the original hand made frame. This is an extremely colorful image of the birds, their feathers are almost electric in hues that make this a very visual piece. The frame just sets this piece off.

Description:  Brick Barn Interior w/Chickens, unsigned, a very detailed timbered brick interior with interior wooden fences, piles of pay, nesting chickens, ladders, shelving with what appears to be crockery on the shelves, and all sorts of items you would expect to find in an old barn. The age of the painting is likely to be 1875-1900. There is a lot of surface crazing and two old splits in the wooden panel that have probably been repaired. The interior is at least 2 stories and possibly 3 depending on how one counts a story. When cleaned, this will be much brighter than it currently is and the detail work will be revealed with the possibility of a hidden signature. This painting originated in California in an Estate that came from Europe just around World War II from a German Jewish family.

Description:  1940s Rockport Texas Boating Scenes by Sandusky; Shrimp boats are back in port with sea gulls flying in the skies. Numerous buildings around the wharf area are visible, and the boats show only all wood, no fiberglass or aluminum types, thus helping to date the pieces. These watercolors would date to probably late 40s or early 50s and are in the original frames that are period pieces as well. Sandusky has a look also of Glouster or Provincetown area but apparently is Texan. These are being sold as a pair.

Description:  An interesting image that almost looks like a 1950s historical or biblical theme movie, this shows a group of soldiers with spears, daggers and a semi-bare busted lady in a classical architecture setting with columns and a decorated frieze. She is shown on a bed or sofa, wearing sandals, her feet on an oriental style rug, and a table with brass pitcher & cup. On the back of the stretcher is the pencil marking Schmidt and there is also the notation of "The Painters Studio" Media, Pa., 30 March 1959.

Description:  Distant Monhegan Island Maine is an island made famous by numerous artists. The colors rocks and physical features are well done and the painting has an interesting period type look. There is a single boat with white sail in almost the upper middle of the water area between the rocky shore and island. The waves are moving into the viewer with a very heavy surf and frothy foam. A single seagull stands on a rock in the lower right surveying the entire image.

Item:  Early 19th Century Portrait Of French Lady

Description:  The painting is likely to be second quarter of the 19th Century, is unsigned, and there is one minor repair on the back that is visible. The figure is wearing drop earrings in yellow gold and her hair is arranged in a very wavy fashion that is in a large wound knot on the top of her head. She is wearing an almost ribbed pattern black Empire style dress. This is almost like a miniature that has just been slightly made larger. The detail is exquisite.

Item:  European Peasant Study by Fiorentini

Description:  An interesting 19th century watercolor with a clear signature reading Fiorentini and possibly a reversed R off the front of the F. If this is correct, the painter would be Rodrigo, an Italian painter from the 19th century who died in 1865 in Naples. The sitter is shown with an almost Alps look with a hat, full beard and sash with an unusual vest treatment. The face is extremely expressive and the eyes very well done. The watercolor is a very appealing image, there is mild foxing to the edges, and the background has a slightly grayish tone behind the shoulders. This painting originated with an estate in New Haven, Conn., and is in a 1940s replaced frame. The only thing I have done to the watercolor is to remat it in an acid free matting, place foam core behind that is now a completely archival framing in the old frame.

Description:  Kentucky Beechwoods, Signed lower right Harvey Joiner, a well known Louisville, Kentucky area, where he was a member of the Louisville Artists League, Mr. Joiner was well known for his images of Kentucky Beechwoods of which this is certainly a prime example. The trees are shown bare with what appears to be a wind blowing from the branch positions. The frame is the original.

Description:  The Arab figures are shown in desert clothing wearing robes and headbands with the camels viewing at a building in ruins. The time of day could either be early morning or late evening with the sun. The scene is quite attractive. The British Artist, Herbert Tomlinson was a known artist between 1905 and 1935 with an interest in the exotic or travels that were of interest to the early 20th century collectors. The sunset or rise behind the classical column ruins make this a very arresting image, and denotes a very timeless quality.

Description:  An impressionistic painting of and orchard in full bloom the new leaves are about to push off the blossoms. The knotty trunks and long hanging limbs accent this old style orchard. Very complicated and detailed work in the blossoms and limbs show the artists mastery of light and color. Signed lower right Clara Lois McQuaid. Image size 12" by 9" Framed size 15" by 12". Clara Louis McQuaid was a landscape painter, and commercial artist, born in 1875 in California and died in 1958. She lived and worked around San Francisco. This scene likely dates from the 1920s and is in a period frame that has a few and nicks and scratches but certainly useable. Some collectors would clean the surface of the painting but most would leave it as it is and keep the original surface.

Description:  This oil on board is dated on the back, in pencil, July 1, 1916 and appears to be the side view of a 2 story house with a red chimney, surrounded by trees, overlooking a valley with a blue group of mountains in the background and billowing or white clouds overhead. The frame appears to be the original. There is no signature and the scene is likely to be American, probably either Mid Western or Eastern US section and spring or early summer time. The clouds have slight colorings of pink and the overall scene is one of tranquility.

Description:  A man wheels a load across the street in this quiet village. A rock wall lines the street on one side and houses on the other. Some young boys sit outside at the corner and further down the street. The flowers in front of the large house are in full bloom. A very colorful piece done mostly in pastel shades. Image size 19.5" by 16". The painting has never apparently been framed is likely to be from either Nantucket or Provincetown. There is one dent in the surface of the roof about mid roof and a dent in the sky below the telephone wires. The painting almost screams New England. Oil On Board, some paint loss at corners, could use cleaning.

Image dimensions are 13 Wide by 16 Tall and framed, 22 Wide by 24 1/2 Tall. The painting is on a heavily textured canvas and the paint surface has a buildup of pigment.

Item:  Jack Woods, Cowboy Returning From Trip.

Description:  The sun is going down, it's the end of the day, and the cowboy is heading home. The rider is on the lead horse pulling two supply horses behind. The landscape is clearly western. Jack Woods is the artist and is a Taos, New Mexico artist from the 1960s and 70s. Painted oil on board, this is in the old original frame and looks as if it it has weathered like the landscape like the scene.

Item:  Country Club of Asheville At Beaver Lake by Six Associates Inc., Architects, Engineers Planners, Asheville, N. C. 1976.

Description:  This watercolored drawing is a working image for a 1970s country club in Asheville, North Carolina. It still stands today and is considered one of the better in the region. The architect who drew it for the firm signed in the lower corner R. Eliott and dated it 1976. The view shows golf being played, tennis courts, cars parked in front, and of course, the main building. The Blue Ridge Mountains in the background make this image one that could almost be photo realistic, it is so well detailed. Six Associates Inc., was one of the better architectural firms in Asheville.

Description:  A lane winds down to the side of water between trees and 2 Mallards are swimming in the lake. The setting is peaceful, serene, and very impressionistic. The wispy branches on the trees show spring or summer time, and the scene is probably in the South. The oil on canvas is in an original pine frame and good condition. Some collectors might want to clean the canvas but most would leave it as it is. The view is one that most people would find very appealing.

Description:  It is hard to tell what this really is, I am guessing an engraving/drawing and may still be wrong. Marked as being Sec. 4 Tp 14, Range 23, clearly the Midwestern grid pattern, this late 19th century image shows a great split rail fence in a zig zag pattern, a rider on a horse driving cows toward a corral, pigs in the front foreground, several types of out buildings, picket fence, lady on back porch of house watching and rows of trees planted all around. Interesting and very well done. There are horses and pigs in different fenced areas, Victorian dressed lady on porch with child, lady and gentleman in yard, and lots of trees in rows all around the house area. The artwork is signed Olathe Tip, Johnson County, Kansas. This Is An Interesting Folk Art Image Of A Working Farm Showing Animals, Fences, People, House & Has Lots Going On. A Really Good Folk Art Piece. My Final Guess Is Pencil & Graphite But Could Still Be Wrong. Whatever It Is, The Viewer Is Very Much Drawn In.

This picture is timeless with no signs of modern life whatsoever. Cowboys, buffaloes, Indians, anything could surface here and be perfectly at home.

Description:  The detail in this landscape with a small figure holding a fishing rod under a wooden bridge makes this lush setting a desirable subject and the viewer is constantly seeing some new natural figure when gazing into the distance. The painting has been cleaned and relined. Very little restoration work was needed and the feeling one gets from this view is of tranquility. Huge stone columns form supports for the bridge at ends of the stream, the trees set against the sky that is somewhat dark, and the effect of light in this makes for a very dramatic but tranquil image.

George Inness Jr. was the son of the famed Hudson River artist George Inness they both painted some in Florida but the son wound up living in Tarpon Springs painting the Gulf and fishing scenes regularly. This image is in restored hence wonderful condition.

Description:  Helen Steketee was a well known Grand Rapids, Michigan artist who exhibited around Detroit in the 30s. She studied with Alten & Breckenridge. Her beach scenes are especially desirable. These have lots of action going from a roadway down to the waters edge and the boats have a carefree and almost whimsical look in the blue water. Both are signed and these are in the original frames. These will be sold as a pair. This pair of paintings have a great sketchy quality that has a very summery look to it that makes one want to get into a sailboat and spend the afternoon on the lake. The colors of the water and boats just make these pop in appearance.

Item:  Oh Ma Baby and Tennessee Tarantula, 1897

Description:  In 1897, a classmate of Martha Rhea in school in New York City, came home to Knoxville to ask for her hand in marriage. Her father said no. While here, he sketched and painted the maid's child and entitled it "Tennessee Tarangula" and a second one "O! Ma Baby". These were framed in a folky walnut frame w/half turned spool designs around the surface and one corner is missing. The painting has in pencil on the top Pictures by Wm. Richmond, Indianapolis, Ind., To Martha Rhea, July, 1897. The figure shows one child with pig tails and a red bow tie, the second shows what appears to be another child with red ties at the end of the pig tails and a blue dress. These are charming pieces of folk art.

The painting does not appear to have ever been out of the frame and it is in great useable condition.

Description:  "Apple Blossom Time", Signed lower left Vernon White 1918(?), this spring time shows lush greens, pinks in the background and cream colored cows in between the 3 large trees. The blossoms on the trees could not be in fuller bloom. The artist was born in 1863 in Lunenburg, Va., and died in 1923 in Chautauqua, NY. He studied in Europe and was a member of the National Arts in NYC and the St. Louis Art League. He won a prize for a still life in the 1902 St. Louis Worlds Fair. He was well known for blooming trees in the spring. On the back of the stretchers is a label from F. J. Moder & Son Art Dealer St. Louis, Mo. The painting does not appear to have ever been out of the frame.

No doubt a Texas scene, this painting has an old west feel and look. Christina Kercheville as a well known artist living in Kingsville, Texas. She was well exhibited all across the American Southwest and her works are held in the New Mexico Museum of Fine Art. This is a very appealing scene.

Description:  Victorians loved to have portraits painted of deceased children, and this oil on canvas signed and dated 1879, shows a Mother clutching one child that is living, and another that is beside her that is deceased. The symbolism of coral for long life is very evident in the mother's hand. The painting remained in the family of the artist until 2003. Hattie attended Syracuse University from 1875-1878, then to Whitworth Female College, taught art in Brookhaven, Miss., from 1878-1881. She married Lt. Christian Von Kloster from Varde Denmark, city engineer in Memphis who died in 1890. She worked for the Vanderbilt Family at Biltmore, in Asheville, N. C. Image size is 36 inches wide by 26 inches tall plus the original frame, 43 wide by 34 1/2 tall. There is a single repair to the canvas, it is in good condition and ready to hang.
