| Description: | It is not often you see a good piece of early American folk art that is in good condition. Of course there is wear, but this appears to be an embroidery on silk that is in the stumpwork form that is associated with the Penn. Dutch, German or Moravian style of work. The figure of the child is shown at the base of a tree leaning against the trunk, the raised needlework is resembling leaves and the overall effect is one of antiquity. The girl's head and face appear to be drawn or painted on the silk and the embroidery work is on the base of the tree, ground and branches with the raised work on the branches as well as the ground covering. This is a unique offering and definitely different. |
